Hurricane Katrina Rescue Convoys, 2005

SMAWL rescued 88 animals out of shelters in Louisiana to make room for the pets of families being displaced. We adopted 87 of those animals. Only one still remains with us in foster care--Pearl the cat. The animals traveled 26 hours to get to us. Some continued up the coast to rescue groups in New York and Connecticut.
