St. Mary’s Animal Welfare League (“SMAWL”), is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization sponsoring a fundraising raffle (“Raffle”) in accordance with the laws of the State of Maryland. The Raffle shall be known as the SMAWL Car Raffle (“Raffle”). All proceed of the Raffle, less prizes and expenses, will benefit SMAWL and will be used in furtherance of charitable purposes. The rules and regulations of the Raffle are set forth below. By purchasing a raffle ticket (“Ticket”), the purchaser agrees to be bound by these rules and regulations. The interpretation and application of the rules and regulations by SMAWL and its legal counsel shall be final.

SMAWL is a non-profit, rescue organization that specializes in the rescue, care and placement of abused, neglected and homeless companion animals. Our animals are vaccinated, microchipped, spayed or neutered, and receive medical treatment before being placed in carefully selected homes. We strive to educate the community in areas of humane education and responsible pet ownership, as well as helping to control the pet overpopulation in our area by promoting the spaying and neutering of all companion animals.

The purchase price of a single raffle ticket is $25 each or 2 or more tickets for $20 each. The odds of winning the prize, as hereinafter defined, will depend on the final number of tickets sold. Checks or money orders should be made out to St. Mary’s Animal Welfare League, or SMAWL. A “purchase” shall not occur and be binding on SMAWL until funds received for the same have cleared the bank. Credit cards accepted are Discover, Visa, MasterCard and American Express. Tickets may be purchased online at www.smawl.org, by mail, or in person at any of our adoption or other events posted on our web site. Ticket purchases are not refundable. The participant must follow all instructions on the entry form to complete the ticket entries and must meet all eligibility requires listed in this Official Rules document to be qualified for the Raffle.

Although more than one name may be provided on the ticket registration form, the ticket shall be registered to the first name listed, who shall constitute the sole Entrant for that ticket. The winning Entrant shall be the "winner" of the prize. Payment to or delivery of any prize will be made to the Entrant. The winner must complete IRS forms before the prize is tendered. It is the sole responsibility of the Entrant to allocate a winning prize to other participants in case of a multiple-entry registration, and the winning Entrant shall hold harmless SMAWL in case of conflicting claims or disputes among multiple claimants.

Pounce Perks Program

SMAWL has signed on for the Pounce Perks program. This program will directly benefit our special adult cats living at our SMAWL Adoption and Rescue Center. These cats are getting the special attention they need to learn to trust humans again. And it's no coincidence that they are learning new behaviors by being rewarded with, yes, cat treats!

On every can* or inside every bag of Pounce treats, you will find a code. All you need to do is send your code numbers to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..">This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. It's that easy. Please put on the subject line: "Pounce Perks." From there, our volunteers will know to forward the codes to Jen and Judy Hunt who are helming this fundraising effort.

Your codes will help SMAWL because they earn points. With enough points, SMAWL will receive $15 gift cards for PetMeds.com. For our Adoption and Rescue Center cats who need to stay healthy, that translates back into a lot of free Frontline treatments, and that's good news.

* The code is found under the label of the can. Be careful. You have to tear off the label first.

This program is valid only through October -- so tell Fluffy to start eating more Pounce!

Another great way to help is by saving your Fresh Step PAW POINTS that are located on each bag or box of Fresh Step cat litter. Through this program our cats and kittens can get free medicine from 1-800petmeds. They can also get well-needed free litter and toys. We just ask that you save your points and send them to us through the mail or through e-mail toThis email address is being protected from spambots.
