Volunteer Network - SMAWL Volunteer Updates 7/27/2009

July 27, 2009

Hey SMAWL Volunteers!

Have you heard the great news? Four of our dogs were adopted this weekend and two more adoptions will be finalized this week! What a great week for the dog team. I haven't heard from the cat team yet but I know I adopted one kitten out myself so I'm sure they'll have great news to report too. Isn't it great to volunteer with a group that has such great news to share?

Here are our current volunteer needs and contacts for each; please join in and help out if you can:

(1) Much to our surprise, we recently found out that the Student Government Association of the College of Southern MD will be hosting a benefit yard sale to benefit a local food bank and SMAWL this Saturday, August 1, from 8am-1pm. We will have adoptable dogs here and need help with holding the dogs, walking them, talking to perspective adoptive parents, and sharing info on SMAWL. We also need shoppers to buy things at the yard sale; if you'd like to sell items, you can bring your wares and for only $10, you can rent a piece of the campus lawn. All space rental collected is divided between us and the food bank. Also, the college is collecting donations to sell so if you have items to get rid of and would like to donate them, please contact Emily Howe of CSM at 301-904-5973 to make arrangements to drop off your items. All proceeds from these donations also support SMAWL and the food bank. To volunteer to help with handling our adoptable dogs, please contact Bev Norris at 301-862-9251 or bnorris4355@yahoo.com.

(2) Our adoptable cats will be featured at Petco this Saturday from 10-2 and we need volunteers who can hold the cats, talk to perspective adoptive parents, and share info on SMAWL. To sign up for this adoption event, please contact Lynda Foster at lyndafoster@med.navy.mil.

(3) Are you helping with the Gianni's fundraiser? If so, make sure all orders and checks are turned in to Becky Reppel by this Friday. You can reach Becky at reppeltb@md.metrocast.net. If you're not sharing these products with your family and friends but would like to support you can contact Becky to order a pizza kit, Auntie Ann's Pretzels, Reeses Peanut Butter cheesecake, lemon pound cake, or a variety of other items to make your tummy happy and our fundraising for the animals a huge success!

(4) Finally, if you have a Food Lion MVP card, please make sure you link SMAWL to your card by contacting the customer service associate at any Food Lion. Each time you scan your MVP card, SMAWL will earn money. It's as simple as that. We received a check today for a little over $60 simply by shoppers scanning their cards.

That's all for now. As always, keep our recently adopted pets in your prayers that they succeed in their new homes and pray that our foster pets soon find their furever homes. Thanks for all you do for SMAWL!
