9th Annual Animal Fair

What is the SMAWL Animal Fair?
The St. Mary’s Animal Welfare League’s Animal Fair is an annual festival attended by over 1,100 people and their pets. It is a day for people and their pets to play and shop together. The fair features non-stop demonstrations, pet games, vendors, microchipping, a pet pageant, equine demonstrations, a pet parade and much more. The 9th Annual Animal Fair will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the St. Mary’s County Fair Grounds in Leonardtown, Maryland from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The purpose of the Animal Fair is to create interest and generate support for local animal welfare and rescue groups and their supporting industries. If you have a rescue organization and would like to attend, please complete the attached form. Our goal is to stage a quality event in order to help SMAWL raise much needed funds to continue our no-kill rescue and adoption program.

The St. Mary's Animal Welfare League is a nonprofit, rescue organization that specializes in the rescue, care and placement of abused, neglected and homeless companion animals. Our animals are vaccinated, microchipped, spayed or neutered, and receive medical treatment before being placed in carefully selected homes. We strive to educate the community in areas of humane education and responsible pet ownership, as well as helping to control the pet overpopulation in our area by promoting the spaying and neutering of all companion animals.
The adoption fee for all cats over 2 years old is now $75 !
Includes up to date shots, spay/neuter and microchip.
We are in significant need of foster homes for cats and dogs, if you are interested in helping one of our pets in need, please check out our volunteer application. Food, supplies and veterinary care are provided for fostered pets.

Need someone to stalk the dust bunnies in your house and chase your wiggly toes? Then I'm your girl ! I was born on 3/1/12. My coloring is Russian Blue. I am a little Pip. Hence, the name Pippa. I am very active, playful but I can be sweet and loving when I bond with you. I will make bread in your lap, jump on your shoulders. I am a lot of fun to be around. I probably should not be adopted to a home with small children since I am VERY active...I might accidentally scratch them and I am a playful biter. I am sure I can adapt to other cats and a calm dog
Hi ! My name is Pandora and boy have I had a rough start to life. The vet says I'm young...under two years old yet I've already had at least one litter of kittens. Then, someone left me and my babies in a box out in the cold. Thank goodness someone from SMAWL found us and brought us inside ! To top it off I have an eye condition that makes my eyes water., but Smawl did an operation on my eyes to help me feel better. All this and I'm still smiling, though ! I'm sweet and personable and would love to have ( finally ) a place to call my own. Won't you think about it?

I'm very gentle and will follow you around just about anywhere so I can get some affection from my friends. I love to be brushed too. ! So I'm an all around great guy to have around the house ! I've been with SMAWL for several years. I don't know why I keep getting passed over. I'm adorable and very sweet.

Rabies Clinics
The St. Mary’s Animal Welfare League (SMAWL), in partnership with the St. Mary’s County Health Department, offers low-cost rabies vaccinations to the public every month from March through November. The clinics are held at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds on the second Monday of each month from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The vaccinations are available for ferrets, cats, dogs and horses.
The cost is $10.00 per animal.

The Cat Castle, in Callaway Villiage Shopping Center, is open on Sat and Sun from 11-3 and on weekdays by appointment.
